Parish Organizations

Liturgy Commission

It is the mission of the liturgy committee to foster an awareness of God's presence when we gather to pay him honor and glory on the Lord's Day and other special Liturgies through prayerful and inclusive planning and by the use of appropriate texts, music, symbols, movement, and active participation of all phases of parish ministries.

Hospitality Commission

The Hospitality Committee is committed to working together with other parish committees to bring the St. John Parish Community together through a variety of planned social events in an effort to nurture the families of our parish and to foster new friendships.

Peace and Justice Committee

The goal of the Peace and Justice Commission is to offer support and resources to victims of injustice and to provide a vehicle for those who feel alienated to return to the life of the church. Meet monthly.

Family Life Ministry

The Family Life Ministry is committed to creating a supportive atmosphere for the growth and development of family life by addressing the spiritual and social needs of the families in our parish and community. Our activities include a monthly visit to the Sachem Rehab and Nursing Facility bringing enjoyable craft activities to their clients. We also distribute communion to those clients who request it. Our other activities also include the organization of the annual Easter Egg Hunt for all the children and the annual church picnic. We are responsible for welcoming new families who register in the parish with a little gift of a parish and community directory. Families with new babies get the same directories and a pair of rosary beads from the Rosary Makers. We also contribute to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry for those in need both in our parish and the community, as well as contributing to various parish activities, such as the Mission Trip this summer and other frequent special requests. We are always looking for new members. If you think you would like to be a part of the Family Life Ministry, please contact me, Carmen Pearson at 508-378-7364. Our Parish can only be as strong as the ministries within it.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer Shawl Ministry was formed by Janet Bristow and Victoria Golo from the Women's Leadership Institute at the Harvard Seminary. St. John's group was started about 4 years ago with 4 women and now we have 17 knitters and purlers from various denominations.

The shawls are given to provide comfort in times of need or celebration or just to let someone know they are loved. Some of the places we bring shawls are local hospitals and nursing homes. To date we have given out 961 shawls and lap robes.

We meet on the 2nd Sunday of the month at Riddell Hall at 3 P.M. to distribute yarn and collect the shawls. The finished shawls and lap robes are placed on the altar at St. John's and blessed by our priests and the whole congregation.

If this sounds like something you would like be a part of, please reach out to MaryAnn or Rose. We are always looking for skeins of yarn.

Holy Stitchers

The mission of the Holy Stitchers is to present a garment to all being baptized. The garment is a gift from the church, which is beautifully hand stitched with the symbolic Chi-rho on the front. The symbol is comprised of two Greek letters X and P symbolizing Jesus Christ. The garment may be passed on to future family members as they receive the sacrament of baptism.

Prayer:
Father we pray that in making a rosary and giving it to someone whom we do not know, we are expressing our love for you and others. With these rosaries we pray for and with each other. May these prayers bring us together as people and eventually as nations. May your will be done. Amen
